It’s strange to think, that it is now over 13 years ago that I took my first steps in Paris. Not in my wildest fantasies, had I imagined that my future was here.
Now I could never imagine another life.
It’s strange how you change. The ideas about life and its ideals. While imagining one direction, life always comes with a lot of surprises that make you have to change your plans. You can’t plan everything or have it all at ones. Life is a journey and you never know where you might end up.
When I arrived my first time in Paris, I was a very naive typical Danish country girl who came to the big city with dreams of going aboard for one year as an au pair in a French family. Make a little money, live aboard and go home again. So after my first trip I went home and sat my plans into motion. Graduated , packed my bags and made my room for the day i came back. But it was a culture shock in every point of view.
Believe me that for over 1 year I ate only chicken, French fries, uncle Ben’s and mac d. food. I started smoking because I felt lonely and all the women looked so classie with their small thin vogues, beautiful red lips and their red wine, bad habit that I have stopped. Dating life was complicated. well you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find your prince.
But oh my good was I in love with Paris. Which has never changed. Paris still gives me butterflies in my stomach, even after all the years.
Suddenly in the middle of it all, I met my dream guy. The Prince of the Gray Iron Horse, which my parents called my husband. Got sick and my Prince bicycled Paris thin to find medicine and soup for me and delivered it on my doorstep with a kiss on my forehead..
He really blew the feet out under me. i had it all figured out until he came along. He destroyed the walls I had built around myself. The colour black became more into a gray nuance and white, a mixture of all colours ……
He made me taste the wildest things. Things I never ever thought I would dare to taste or, for that matter, dared to do.
The little country girl who had never cooked an egg before wanted to charm her French prince. So I went out to the kitchen and looked at the stove, there I stood for quite some time. i wanted to show him that I also could be a Woman. It took Some mistakes, i’m not telling you about the shrimps i washed in soap water, the cucumber wok nor the fish with grilled chess. But in the end all ended good.
Now I’m sitting here and writing, 13 years have passed, in a small house. Two small picky sticks lying and sleeping. A man sitting there enjoying a cold day’s beer.
A lot of future plans, a lot of dreams and at the same time, a wonderful life, each thing fighting for. Ups and downs and everything in the middle.
